Xavier Wohleber is a neutron engineer who has been working at the CEA since 1997, having completed an engineering degree and a PhD. He spent the early part of his career working on neutron calculations applied to small reactors, and soon specialized in research reactors, for which there is a high demand for calculations, both relating to the core management and the performance of experiments.
He then turned his attention to reactor operations, notably the Osiris irradiation reactor (70 MW), and headed up the Isis training reactor (700 kW), before going on to manage radioisotope and silicon production at the Saclay reactors, including Orphée (14 MW, scattering neutrons guides).
For the past 10 years, he has been teaching reactor physics and reactor operation. He acts as an expert on international issues, as the Jordanian reactor commissioning, the two Saudi research reactors projects, and currently the VERONICA project here in Slovenia.
He is currently involved in the construction of an accelerator-driven neutron source (CANS) for imaging applications in the Saclay CEA Center. And with the IAEA, he chairs the “Neutrons4NuclearApplications” working group, which aims to bring together the reactor and accelerator communities with a view to the rational use of neutrons.
