Geert-Jan de Haas holds a master and PhD degree in geology and geochemistry from the Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After his PhD he was employed as a post-doc at the University of Oslo, Norway and as scientist/lab manager at the Institute of Geology and Mining of the Trondheim Technical University.
As from 2003 he has been working at NRG in Petten. He started as the manager of the fuel research team. Between 2008 and 2010 he combined this position with the role of laboratory manager of the newbuilt radiological laboratories. In 2011 he was appointed as programme manager for the research programme funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate policy and the European Commission. As such he is involved in the development of nuclear infrastructure to enable and facilitate developments in the field of reactor technology and to stimulate innovation.
He is member of the Governing Board of the NEA FIDES II programme and member of the Board of Management of the Halden Reactor and HTO programmes. He is chair of the Netherlands Nuclear Society.
