Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), ETH Zurich

Dr. Victor Petrov is a Lead Research Scientist at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and Co-Director of the Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flow (ECMF) Laboratory at ETH Zurich, with an affiliation at the University of Michigan. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and master’s degrees in Nuclear Engineering and in CFD modeling and investigation of fires and explosions. His research focuses on nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and safety, combining advanced experiments, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and multiphysics simulations. His expertise covers light-water, gas-cooled, and liquid-metal-cooled reactors, with particular emphasis on multiphase flows, turbulence, thermal fatigue, and advanced reactor concepts. He also develops and applies radiation-, laser-, and fluid-property-based measurement techniques for high-resolution flow characterization and CFD validation. Dr. Petrov has received multiple international awards for his contributions to thermal-hydraulics and reactor safety.
