Francisco Javier Elorza Tenreiro obtained the title of Mining Engineer, in the energy generation and distribution track, at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in 1981. He obtained the title of Doctor of Mining Engineer at UPM in 1985. Associated professor in UPM from 1997 to 2008. Since 2008, he is Full Professor in the Department of Geological and Mining Engineering of UPM. Since 2021, he is the Dean of the Mines and Energy Engineering School of UPM. From 1994 to 2000, he was a National Expert assigned to the Water Unit of the Environment Institute of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, Ispra (Italy). He has participated in more than 20 research projects with institutions and industries related with Nuclear Waste Management and Decommissioning (ENRESA: El Cabril Disposal Facility, Zorita NPP; UE: INTERCLAY, FEBEX I, FEBEX II, CLIPEX, CETRAD, ENEN2, PETRUS, PETRUS II, ANNETTE, ENENplus, ENEN2plus projects; CSN: HIDROBAP; CIEMAT; NATURGY; etc.). From 2019, he is the UPM Coordinator of the SARENA (Safe and Reliable Nuclear Applications) Erasmus Mundus Master. He has supervised 14 doctoral theses. Author or co-author of more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, more than 20 books and book chapters and more than 250 communications at national or international scientific conferences. He has participated in numerous scientific committees (MECD, CICYT, ANEP, EU, CNRS (France), ENEN (Belgium)). President of the ENEN Association from March 2024.
