Dr. Samir El Shawish is a senior research associate at the Jožef Stefan Institute, specializing in the structural integrity and ageing of nuclear safety-related components, computational solid mechanics, and irradiation damage of steels. He holds a B.Sc. and Ph.D. in condensed matter physics from the University of Ljubljana and has over two decades of research experience, including long-term collaboration with CEA in France. His work has led to significant advancements in modeling microstructural ageing effects, intergranular stress corrosion cracking, and strain localization in irradiated materials. With a strong track record of leadership in national, international, and industrial projects, he also contributes extensively to teaching and mentoring at the University of Ljubljana. Dr. El Shawish’s expertise in finite element methods and advanced computational modeling is complemented by his role in developing novel analytical and numerical approaches to predict material degradation in nuclear environments.
