Dr. Borut Žužek

Head of the Mechanical Testing Laboratory, Institute of Metals and Technology, Slovenia

Dr. Borut Žužek is a metallurgist with over 15 years of professional experience in mechanical testing, specializing in the fatigue and creep resistance of metallic materials. He is working as the Head of the ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Mechanical Testing Laboratory at the Institute of Metals and Technology. For several years he also serves as an expert assessor for Slovenian accreditation in mechanical testing.

His expertise includes metallographic analysis, non-destructive testing, and in-situ failure investigations, particularly in thermal power station environments. His primary focus is on the correlation between mechanical properties and the microstructure of steels. By monitoring the degradation mechanisms of steel under operating conditions, he predicts their future lifespan.

During his research on creep-resistant steels through nanoscale microstructural modifications, he developed a mathematical model describing the effect of precipitate characteristics on the creep behaviour of steels.
