About us

The Nuclear Society of Slovenia (NSS) is a volunteer association of scientists, professionals and people of other disciplines working or interested in the field of peaceful use of nuclear science and technology. Activities of the Society are based on principles of knowledge dissemination, peaceful use of nuclear technology and environmental protection.

Main scope and goals of the Society

Actively providing public information on technical questions and promotion of the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology.

Maintaining a high quality of expert engagement, promoting the information exchange and the transfer of knowledge and technology to the national industry.

Collaboration in the development of standards and monitoring of legislation in the field of nuclear science and technology in Slovenia.

Supporting the safe operation of nuclear facilities in the Republic of Slovenia, as well as the active participation in solving specific technical problems.

Supporting the literature publication and systematically managing the development of Slovenian terminology in the field of nuclear science and technology.

Collaborating with similar societies and expert organizations, organizing expert meetings and consultations, as well as promotion of professional development, scholarships, and exchange of experts at home and abroad.

President

Dr. Tomaž Žagar

Dr. Tomaž Žagar received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Ljubljana and his Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Maribor. He is also a first-generation fellow of the World Nuclear University.

He has been working in the nuclear sector for the past 25 years, being active in research, education and industrial aspects of the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. He currently works at GEN energija and is a lecturer at the Faculty for Energy Technology of the University of Maribor. He has been a member of the Nuclear Society of Slovenia since 1997, where over the years he held a variety of positions (editor, member and president of organising committees, member of supervisory board, and others).

Supervisory Board

Supervisory Board monitors activities of the Management Board and other bodies of the society. Supervisory Board also performs supervision over financial and material operations of the society.
